Horse & Carriage, St Augustine; 9 x 12 inches pen & ink on paper. Microns .005, .01.
Completed March 2005.
Tourists in St Augustine. I usually choose subjects in my pen & inks that are more tourist friendly snapshots instead of what I consider to be subjects of different depths in my paintings.
This is really well done for the composition and technique of the inks but I think it's a bit too busy for black and white. Specifically the two men passengers on the back and right, at first it looked like the far right man had an extra long leg but because you tried too hard on to treat the pen like apencil it's hard to tell the difference in value.
Also the right back wheel is a bit off on the angle of the front, where the wheel slopes down to the viewers perspective.
However the things I do like about this drawing is that gorgeous horse, and how with only a few lines and block shading you've created a beautiful rendition of a draft horse. It really is breathtaking. I also like how you drew the viewers eye to the man with the coat on, and how the darkest value was saved for him. Over all a 8.5 out of 10. And a big hug for effort Congrats for finishing such a time consuming piece.
Such is the difficulty of posting pen & ink drawings online. Much of the detail is lost. This is a photograph of the actual drawing. The actual drawing is much crisper than this is, and the detail and shading is brought out a lot more. I understand and see what you say here, and if the original looked exactly like this does, I would agree.
I appreciate the feedback, though. It gives food for thought for future pieces. Thanks!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
